Living in the border city of El Paso, Texas, I find it close to impossible to consider myself entirely American or entirely Mexican. “I just want to be loved” is a social experiment based on alternating between both cultures and customs equally and having to battle with American expectations on physique and behavior. It is a performance piece inspired on David Hume’s view on personal identity.

“Thus the principle of individuation is nothing but the invariableness and uninterruptedness of any object, thro’ a suppos’d variation of time, by which the mind can trace it in the different periods of its existence, without any break of the view, and without being oblig’d to form the idea of multiplicity or number.” -Hume
